MEET SERENA YANG

Serena Yang was born in Denver, Colorado where she first started dancing at age 4 in tap and ballet. After moving to Clovis, California she started her training at several dance studios but mainly at Clovis Academy of Dance. She continued to train in ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical as well as tumbling. Serena was a comptitive studio kid for 10 years and was blessed to win many prestegious awards, titles, and scholarships, some which allowed her to train with the top choreographers from Los Angeles to New York City. At 12 years old she recieved a scholarship from Encore Dance Co. to train with dancers like Mandy Moore and Rhonda Miller and performed at Universal Studios. At 17 she recieved a Tripple Threat Scholarship from New York City Dance Alliance to go to NYC for 2 weeks to train in different genres like musical theatre to hip hop with the likes of Jason Parsons and Executive Director Joe Lanteri. Her freshmen year in High School, she was able to do her first personal job with Nickalodeon dancing for their summer concert series TeeNick Concerts where she danced with artists like Lil Romeo, Avril Lavigne, B2K, and Mario. Serena did Competitive Pep&Cheer for 5 years and after her freshmen year at Clovis High decided she wanted to pursue dancing to her full potential and auditioned to be accepted into Roosevelt School of the Arts taking advanced classes in jazz, ballet, and tap and choreographing for touring school shows, having lead roles in the musicals, and even graduated as Valedictorian. She signed with DDO Artist Agency in 2006 and this has allowed her to experience the dancer's life having done back-up dancing jobs to LA club performances, and magazine and cothing line launches in Las Vegas. Though a full time student at UC Riverside as a Dance Major, she doesn't mind the commute to auditions and rehearsals where she is currently on 3 dance teams: Sheroes (Fullerton), GRV (Pomona) ,and your very own Boogiezone Breed OCLA. Her first 3 years of college she was a dancer and choreographer for UCR's 909 Hip Hop Dance Troupe and the Public Relations her last year. She's choreographed and taught classes all over SoCal and was blessed to teach hip hop workshops in San Luis Obispo, Las Vegas, and even New Jersey. She has plans to go back east to teach again as well as Vegas and next summer for Boogiezone New Zeland. Having focused on hip hop for the last 4 years, Serena's style is her own unique fusion of lyrical and contemporary hip hop where her passion is for really feeling the music and lyrics. She is excited to be teaching her first Boogiezone class and for it to be the contemporary class it couldn't be a more perfect fit.
