In the presence of Japan's ambassador Shibuya, seeds of the Hiroshima Peace Tree were planted in Leiden (Netherlands). The Peace Tree was the first one to flower after Horoshima's devastating bombardment in 1945. The small ceremony took place in the Von Siebold Japanese Garden (in Leiden University's Hortus Botanicus) which boast many native Japanese varieties. The ceremony included the singing of the Japanese national anthem.
