the non-IS version of this lens is tack sharp compared to the f2.8 is II...as long as you have the right amount of light to keep the speed up and avoid camera shake.

Dude, you know shit about this lens. Only the IS version of this lens is water/dust-resistant. Go ahead and be my guest of giving it a 'little shower'

It's great that you've got this lens, it really is a good one. But you need to base your reviews on some research instead of guesswork. It has no weather sealing at all, the rear barrel is indeed metal not plastic (I know... I cracked mine!), there's no mention of performance info such as flare, contrast, focusing speed etc. And instead of saying you didn't buy the IS or f2.8 version because you didn't need it, just be honest and say it is beyond your budget... there's nothing wrong with that!!

It's a Full-time manual focus lens, so you CAN do that. basically any lens that has a USM motor is a full time manual focus lens.
