A quote from David Evans of The University of Memphis sums up the importance of Yank Rachell in the musical world. "There can be little doubt about the importance of James "Yank" Rachell in the history of the blues. He is one of only two major blues mandolinists and the only one to carry that instrument to any degree into the blues revival scene from the 1960's onward."

  • It's not "RAY-chell" it's pronounced "ra-SHELL" by Yank and everyone in Indy who knew him.

  • Not necessarily so. Sheen Rachell says that people down south would say "ray-chell" and people up north would say "ra-shell." I've heard both used, including by Yank.
