I like to think that Dame Elizabeth Taylor discovered a lot about humanitarianism, philanthropy and activism in Washington, D.C. and later applied it to her plight to increase AIDS/HIV awareness, provide adequate educational programs and fund raise for direct patient/client care and research. I like to think that her years in Washington, D.C. did that much for her because, other than learning these skills, she does not speak kindly of her years with John Warner. Particularly vulnerable when she married him, she sold her jewelry to aide in his senatorial campaign. She stood by his side while thousands of fans rallied to his side...most likely to get a glimpse of Elizabeth Taylor. Once he won the election, she no longer had a life of her own and she was sad and lonely. Senator Warner brushed her aside and married his career and though living with Elizabeth, she was alone and desolate. She gained weight and increased her substance abuse intake. Things would get worse for poor Elizabeth, until life turned around for her. Once she saved her own life, she went about the task of saving millions of more lives. Please donate, if you can, five or ten dollars add up quickly and so many people find such satisfaction in being part of the solution. The funds of The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation go directly for patient support and care. Funds are not used for overhead or staff salary. People volunteering does warm the heart. I know.

  • I believe that it was later on, like 1984, after she left the Betty Ford Center, that Elizabeth completely regained her great beauty. I can recall seeing her with silver-tipped hair and looking as gorgeous as she did thirty years earlier. The middle 1980's were a great period for her. In fact, there was a time in the mid 1980's when I think she got too thin. Loved her hair in those days ---- the silver and the blond tipping.

  • Yes, after Betty Ford...she spent 1984 feeling sober & in recovery. She realized that she did not love her current fiance, Victor Luna...and still loved Richard Burton (yet he was married). There MAY have been another (1984) scandal but Richard died in August 1984. Devastated, she went on with her film career and her fight against AIDS. 1985-1994 she was stunning. Her hip surgeries changed everything...her life...her image...her marriage.

  • fu un periodo terribile per liz, finché rifiorì nel 1983

  • R.I.P my lady

  • Absolutely. Without this period, how could she possibly have done what came later.

  • Elizabeth's John Warner period was really rather interesting--certainly all the campaiging prepared her for the stage and then later her AIDS fundraising. Despite the weight issues, there was still plenty of glamour as Mrs. Warner; those low-cut, high-slit Halstons! I remember that era with some fondness--she was trying to be real, age naturally and kinda retire. But there were three great "comebacks" in the future and she indeed seemed indestructible.
