These 64 Channel scanners are fascinating however, only 1 or 2 types of studies are typically done with all 64 channels open. The CTA of the coronary arteries is most common and patients are heavily exposed during the test. The benefit is that it's non-invasive other than the iv.

I can remember when I had scans back in the late 80s and they were single slice scanners and a CT of the chest and abdomen took at least 45 minutes. I have had many since then and yesterday was my first spiral CT scan and it had to be at least a 16 slice scanner as a scan of the facial bones took only 15 seconds.

Thank you for your comment. The benefit of the new scanners is definitely less time spent but it is also the images that are generated. They become a three dimensional movie for the doctor to review for diagnostic accuracy.
