At long last!! and.. though I do say so meself... It's sounding bloody great.
So to bring you up to speed...
two random meetings in two random pubs back in June last year with a bloke named Rod and hey presto a year later I seem to have an album and a newly formed label. How strange but truly wonderful.
"Can me and my wife buy into your album?" asked Rod. "Too bloody right you can " said I and so Masterpiece Music was formed and we started down the road of creating the album I had always dreamed of. With long time music buddy Glenn Keiles in the producers chair we've slogged away for the best part of a year and so now my Debut album "Masterpiece" is on the way.

There are some interesting and quirky angles to this piece of work. "More Than A Game" is my world cup song and we're busy hurling it at all possible outlets to see if anything sticks.

Stephanie Moore, widow of Bobby, has given her blessing for us to push the song under the auspices of the Bobby Moore Fund (Cancer Research) and we'll be diverting slices of the profits back to the fund.

Similarly "Hey Traveller" is dedicated to Dan Eley who suffered a truly horrendous injury whilst working in Colombia and who is proving himself to be one of life's real fighters as he battles to overcome his injuries. Same principal.. wherever and whenever the song sells.. Dan will benefit.

I simply had to doff me cap to Mr Ralph Vaughan Williams. I'm still resident in his old house and most of the album has been written there. He is the inspiration for "The Songcatcher" and, although of course he's not aware of it, he is the co writer on that track!

As for the rest, "Masterpiece" the title track has been making people with kids cry for some time now and "X Marks the Spot" is for our friends the greedy *!@!$*% bankers. God love em.

Interesting times? like you wouldn't believe. Top top players have laid their genius down on this album.... Accy Yeats on drums.. Mark Elvin,bass... Damien Cooper, monster guitars and lovely live brass from Miles Russell and Scott Garland. Throw in some beautiful strings and french horn played by Tim, number one son,Duerden and you've got my Masterpiece in every possible way.

So it's me, Rod and Mary Fountain and Glenn Keiles.. Masterpiece music at your service... on an incredible journey but lovin every minute.

More Than a Game will be available on iTunes from during the week beginning 24th May 2010

  • Magnificent work Andy and the rest of the team. A great tribute to the finest England captain there will EVER be. Inspiring song. Good luck with it and the album.

  • It's no wonder someone wants the guitar chords for this song it's a brilliantly constructed piece of music and video and what a voice

  • Inspirational Lyrics by Andy Duerden, the single is due on iTunes later this week which will be followed by his Albumn 'Masterpiece' sometime in June (can't wait)

It's a shame that there's no team song for England's World Cup squad this year as I feel that this would be up there with the best of them.

    Appreciate your thoughts. Enjoy

    John
