This is the first two minutes of a 30-minute radio interview show which contains a private phone interview which I conducted with Roy Orbison in 1975 while working as the American Top 40 East Coast researcher for Casey Kasem. I was with the show for 15 years, during which time I conducted over 1000 private interviews with recording artists, songwriters, producers, musicians, executives and others in the music business.
Roy gave me permission to use this private phone interview in any manner which I saw fit to do.
There really are not enough superlatives to describe how important this man was in the history of popular music. To say that he was an incredible talent is truly an understatement. And, as a person, he was very classy as is obvious during our conversation.
"Ooby Dooby" is the first of several record segments that you will hear during this show, which covers the period from that 1956 recording through his 1964 recording of "Oh, Pretty Woman," his biggest record ever. One of the things we discuss during this interview is why the word "oh" is part of that title. And yes, there's a very good reason for that!
This interview show is on my Radio Page, which is part of the Jersey Girls Sing website. The Jersey Girls are Denise Ferri and Bernadette Carroll.
Denise was a member of the well-known East Coast girl group called the Delicates. The other two members were Arleen Lanzotti and Peggy Santiglia. The Delicates were legendary deejay Murray the K's original "Dancing Girls" and wrote and recorded many of his theme songs, including the famous "Submarine Race Watcher's" theme. They did many recordings on their own including "Flip, Flip," "Meusurry" (written especially for Murray) and "Black And White Thunderbird." which is one of the most popular car songs of all time in the United States and around the world.
Bernadette Carroll is best known for her 1964 national hit "Party Girl." She recorded many other records as well and did backup singing on all the Angels' recordings on Smash record, including their 1963 #1 hit "My Boyfriend's Back". In 1968 she joined the Angels and recorded two singles (four sides) for RCA Records as their lead singer.
Denise, Bernadette and Peggy did backup work for many well-known recording artists including Frankie Valli, Patty Duke and Lou Christie. It was those three girls who were doing the backup singing on Lou Christie's1966 #1 smash "Lightnin' Strikes" and its follow-up "Rhapsody In The Rain."
During the past two and a half years I've done approximately 90 radio interview shows exclusively for the Jersey Girl Sing website. My show is called "Ronnie Remembers" and the Delicates wrote and recorded my theme song. Some of the people that I've interviewed are -- in no particular order -- Bobby Vee, Sue Thompson, Jimmie Rodgers, Herb Reed of the Platters, the Poni-Tails (their only interview ever!), the Paris Sisters, Gary Lewis, Trini Lopez, Jill Corey, Mel Carter, Gogi Grant, Bob Crewe, music historian Joel Whitburn, legendary broadcast personalities Clay Cole and Herb Oscar Anderson, Paul and Paula, Peggy March, the late Al Martino, Little Anthony, Gary Troxel of the Fleetwoods, Dave Somerville of the Diamons, Carol Connors (AKA Annette Kleinbard) of the Teddy Bears, Barbara Harris of the Toys, Paul Evans, Gene Chandler, songwriter Paul Vance, Nino Tempo and April Stevens (their only interview in the 21st Century!), Tracey Dey, Sam the Sham, the Playmates, Vicki Spencer, Bobby Goldsboro, Wanda Jackson and Duane Eddy and, yes, the Delicates.
All of the above interview shows -- plus my vintage shows with Roy Orbison (described above) and Teresa Brewer (from 1990) -- are on my Radio Page and can be listened to on demand on any day and at any time. You can get to my Radio Page directly using the following address:

I love communicating with others who share my passion for the popular music that has truly become the soundtrack of our lives.
Thanks very much, Sergio. And, "beep, beep, beep," kudos to you for the fabulous video that you did on the Delicates "Black And White Thunderbird"! One of the Delicates is, of course, "Jersey Girl" Denise Ferri. (The group was originally from Belleville, NJ.) It's awesome and several thousand viewers is a testament to that.

Thanks so much, Ed! Coming from the master video maker (you!) that means the world to me.
Roy was truly a giant and I felt honored to be in a position where I could spend a few minutes by phone "one-on-one" with him.
His recordings will be played by many generations to come.
