It's true that the amp isn't pure valve, but as is my limited understanding of amp design the solid state preamp and fx loop and emulated line out won't make much difference. All the distortion is coming from the tubes, the most important thing is that it has the responsveness of a tube amp. I doubt the difference is noticable to anyone.

Stick it through a 4x12 cab and get a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster infront of it if its not loud enough. Its true bypass, has class A circuitry and it won't colour the tone at all, just give you a massive increase in Volume!!.

'Tallica!!!.

Sorry bro. This head isn't pure valve. They use clipping circuits for the preamp. ISF control is digital too I believe. Solid state FX loop. Emulated line out. Not pure tube.

i belvive it is a pure valve- the blackstar page says- that its valve and the isf works with the bass and mids to change the sound

@jacktheguitarman Nope, not pure valve. It's not a bad thing. It's just not pure valve. I play a Mesa Boogie Express 5:25 and it's not pure valve. It has a valve preamp and a valve power section but uses a diode rectifier. Just like you can call 100 proof Vodka alcohol. It's not pure.

@ILikeJuice Oh damn. Didn't mean to call the ISF digital.

By itself this thing is barley loud enough for band practice but. I put a pod in front of it and it makes it very loud. Plenty loud enough to keep up with drums. Its like going from a 5 watt to a 20 watt amp with that pod. Oh I use a 2x12 cab. I dont understand electronics and shit so I dont know why this happens but I do know it gets much much louder with the pod than the amp by itself.
