Sri Lanka Soldiers on with Tamil Tiger Fight

As the battle between Sri Lankan armed forces and Tamil Tiger rebels rages on, more civilians have been rescued and information has been revealed about the terror they faced in captivity. Heres more on this story.

STORY:
The combat is intense in Sri Lanka between military forces and the Tamil Tiger Rebels, as armed forces surround the rebel stronghold on the islands north-east.

The army appears to be using a combination of heavily armed soldiers, tanks and helicopters, as it rescues 380 Tamil civilians who flee the war zone. More than 36,000 fled in February.

There are still tens of thousands still in the war zone. Aid agencies, rights groups and the government have urged the rebels to stop using them as human shields.

The rebels claim people are staying out of choice, but refugees who have escaped say the rebels shoot those who try to run, and go so far as to conscript teenagers to fight with basically no training.

The government has rejected a Tiger ceasefire call as a ploy to buy time to re-arm, and has pledged to provide a safe passage for civilians.

The battle continues.

wp2015, the problem is sinhalese have been living in north Sri Lanka for more than a thousand years. so slicing that land out for them is way out of the question. have you heard of Ravana? or Wijaya or Naga people?

Can you or BBC confirm that the SL army is doing this? how can all these people claim the SL army is doing this just because they get their resources from a timal but if the SL gov or Army confirms something then its "claim" and that its not true. It is not phosphorous bomb, what you see is flares that are used to prevent heat seeking missile attacks. If phosphorous was used, your ass in Canadian asylum will burn. SL army does not possess phosphorous and chemical weapons. On the other hand, LTTE terrorists do possess as evident in past attacks and captured cache of weapons. There are a couple of youtube videos highlighting independent reports that it is LTTE that shoots at fleeing civilians & blames it on army. C Daya Master confession.

I can see SL plane using phosphorus bomb at the LTTE, but the bomb cannot differentiate LTTE from Tamil civillian in the dark. Latest report by BBC reported SLA are shelling and shooting at civilian revealed by escaping Tamil civilians.Some western activist wanted the UN blue helmet to be stationed in the north, and SL government rejected all truces. If you a peace loving man, then you should instil peace in your people. Stop the war will stop the killing. The world can see who did the killing.

In reply to EnigmaHood. I am not from SL and not in favour with either party. If SL country cannot be divided, then certain type of self-rules can be given to the Tamil representives in the your SL parliment bases on true principles of democracy. The killing of civilians(based on clips posted on Youtube), regardless of whichever side committed, be it in wars or civil war, wil reflect genocide by the victor, or the stronger military(I sincerely apoligize to you that I have offended anyone).

Unfortunately, Sri Lanka can not be divided under any circumstances. Please do not use sensationalist ideas like genocide against civilians unless you have evidence of this. The LTTE losing the war with Sri Lanka is not the same as a genocide. It simply means the LTTE is losing. Everyone wants peace, however Sri Lanka is destabalized because of the LTTE. The only way to stabilize the country is for them to be defeated.
