Florence is probably my favorite city in Italy but try to avoid the summer months. Line ups for museums are excessively long. March-June is a great time to visit or perhaps September -November. This city is like a walking museum. Every street has something from the Renaissance time or perhaps Medieval. It is fantastic. One would need about 3-4 days in order to view the most known architectures, artifacts, painting and frescoes. While in Florence, a trip to Siena is a must. The best risotto.
