At one point Austin & Morris were partners and teamed up with Leyland. Britain has a very interesting Automobile history after WWII. Austin may have been a hard nose but he created many jobs after WWII. Did you ever notice the special size nuts on the Healeys. This is the British standard and very rare to find a set of wrenches for these days. I have a set of wrenches for them wrapped in valore and stored in a box. I forget the official name of them but it is something like "McCoy wrenches".

The Healys have a very interesting history... Austin was not a very nice gent and had one business partner after the next. Many off these partners eventually broke it off with him do to fallings out or design conflicts... This is why you have so many different name Austins... Austin Martin, Austin Healey, Austin Rover etc etc Then Morris got into it and made the Morris Minor which was also called the Austin Mini, seems Austins ego stepped in lol... A

They bought masses of them and built the Sprites. Very tough engines and when you listen to them run you can hear that traditional Jeep sound. In Britain after WWII many military airplane hangers were abandon so private businesses set up all kinds of shops in them but mostly auto manufactures and the businesses would call them "Garages" hence MOWOG short for Morris Wosley Garage...

By the way GO MOWOG!!! LOL

I worked for an Austin Healy restoration shop for 3 years and glad I did, that is where I acquired my 69 MK IV Sprite 18 years ago so in case you don't know what that means it stands for Morris Wosley Garage and the 1275 engines in the Sprites are WWII British Army Jeep engines that Donald Healey acquired from the British Army Surplus after the war...

  • I got the same car for the last 18 years... Sounds like you got those SU's in tune. I love my 69 and the 3 wipers are my favorite feature lol. I changed my steering wheel out to a sport Austin Healey steel frame. It is said the stock steering wheel spokes have gone threw peoples hearts or faces in an auto accident. You may consider changing the steering wheel. Go to Victoria British Catalog and get yourself a sport Healey wheel and put the original in storage. Play it safe mate.
