@sekopaa3 Good question. As far as I recall, the BBC can use any music they like because their broadcasts are non-profit. Obviously once they release DVDs of their shows it becomes for profit, so they have to ask permission and pay for the music included.

I think BoC are used to such an extent because they really do fit the ambience of the show. Other bands are featured heavily for the same reason; Goldfrapp (their first album), AIR, Black Box Recorder etc.
