Their drill is impressive, the concentrated looks on the faces tells it all. I've seen the Norge army, most of it is conscript, these young lads are awesome~~~

@icefemte Well. I'm MADLY impressed with them myself, esp. seeing as they're in my neighbouring cube and I talk to them a lot, but. Technically. They don't have six months behind them. The Edinburgh tattoo is in September, which is right at the very, very, very end of their service. Which means they're at their best. =) But then again ... this perhaps isn't in Edinburgh? No idea. :D

@101327 Yes, we [Norway] still expect our young men and women to serve their country for one year. Men are required, women have the option.
If you do not wish to serve in the armed forces you may apply to serve under the auspices of the "civil service", and serve in hospitals, schools, kindergartens, retirement homes, social services, NGOs and similar organizations.
The primary goal is for the young person to make a meaningful contribution to society [as stated by the law].

Does Norway still use conscripts?

I agree with peachey2021, the commentator ruined it.

the idiot talking ruins it!
To comment a bit, what is "special" about the Norwegian Royal Guard is that they are so young. Usually these guards and exercises have veterans, but nearly all of there have six months of military experience behind them and are 19-20 years old. Which makes what they are doing very impressive.

I don't think , after having discovered the HMKG a few days ago. I can ever get excited again at seeing the Trooping of the Colour as I have been mesmerized by these men.
Pity on has to listen to the aberration of Schweizerdeutsh spoken whilst wathcing and trying to listen this.
