Here are some clips of our wedge and wedge sweeps we ran during the 2006 season. Nothing better than watching a bunch of six to eight year olds pull off a well executed wedge play!! Teams feared this play in our league more than Super Power. I had the same film guy the entire season and he had trouble finding the ball all season on our wedge series. This team broke our schools season scoring record at the six to eight year old division and a lot of the credit goes to the success we had with our wedge series. I hope you enjoy the clips.

  • I would very much like to implement this offense. We have started our season and have lost both games. Needless to say I am not confident in our offense right now. We have faced very aggressive defenses and I think this offense would be great. What do you suggest we start with, wedge ,toss?

  • @csaavedra69 What age group are you coaching? If your coaching a team younger than eleven, I would get wedge going first. Older than eleven and I would try to get toss going first. Just keep it simple so your players can be aggressive.

  • @CoachFreddy I'm a coach for 6-7 year olds up against the right defense the wedge will not work. Two teams have tried to run it on us already.

  • It takes A LOT of work to make it work properly and most youth coaches will not put in the time to perfect such an ugly play. Now you are correct in that a team can stop the wedge, but the defense has sacrificed another area of the field to do it. I live by the phrase "If you take away the wedge, you give me the edge. If you take away the edge, you have given me the wedge. Pick your poison, you cannot have both". A good team will run wedge through your D or they will attack you in another area.

  • which pixel is the ball

  • video quality sucks big time!

  • my coach is teaching us this

  • @xNighx Thanks for the reply on this. I didn't respond as it would have came across like I was beating a dead horse. You are correct. It is not illegal. I have been penalized in one game in three years running the wedge and that was because we were playing on the home teams multi-million dollar field shoving the ball down their throat. The moron coaches we were up against were screaming to the officials that our wedge was illegal and they finally gave in and threw the yellow hanky on us!

  • @MarkCox73 I know you can't see it here, but they are not interlocking, or holding each other. The guards are PUSHING the Center, and the Tackles are pushing the Guards, etc...no interlocking, and as long as you don't "assist the ball carrier" you are legal. You are allowed to assist other blockers, just not the ball carrier.

  • After looking at it again. The way it's being ran is an Illegal Procedure. They are holding on to the backs of the other players as the push forward. Coach Freddy, this is illegal at all levels. Google search "flying wedge rule" It was actually an executive order . Very interesting history from the roots of football.

  • If they are holding on to one another or if they are interlocking legs or arms it's an Illegal Wedge. (illegal procedure)
