  • A few thousand years ago, population was controlled by the simple fact of limited availability of food. With the agricultural revolution, population exploded, not only in the areas that produced adequate food, but also in other areas that had neither the skills, knowledge, equipment or work ethic to produce sufficient food. Nonetheless, they overproduced children they could neither support or nourish in any way. I, for one, feel little responsibility to solve their self-created problems.

  • Thank you for so aptly illustrating the problem - given that the societies we both come from are historically in large part the products of systemmatic and continued exploitation of others, it seems that some of us have learned much to little avail.

  • Poignant vid, but it's not indifference. The fact of the matter is, handouts isn't going to make the world a better place.

  • This is not about handouts, but about moral responsibility - to lead a life that does not profit through someone else's suffering.

  • It's not as if people in the developed world are totally indifferent. You cannot deny them their luxury by making them feel guilty about it simply because there are starving people in Africa. Charity donations in the developed world are giving billions of dollars of aid to Africa every year. Yet Africa isn't getting any better.

  • I agree. That's why the issue is not one of aid, but one of greed.

  • The information is for people with English as a Second language and for people the reflexion want and have to go... too fast faded out.

Simply please give me more time!!

  • it's actually a cycle, adults don't bring suffering upon themselves, since they were the same children without choice. I think a problem with today habit of labelling everything is that people think adults and children are two different species; they can't see that children without choice are the adult without choice that will have children without choice. There are just humans, no child vs adult, no innocence vs choice. Just humans.

  • OK, you don't care about suffering that you believe the adults have brought upon themselves. But what about the innocent children. Do they deserve to suffer? Your attitude and those of many others border on sociopathic. Its in part Western religion that contributes to overpopulation by opposing birth control.

  • You should stand up from your cozy couch and turn off your big tv and fly over and see for yourself what those people are suffering, maybe that way some sensibility would arise and maybe, just maybe, know the meaning of mercy....you still have time

  • There are different kinds of people. Some are responsible, some are not. Some only look out for themselves and some look out for others. You can give an irresponsible person all the wealth in the world but you can't expect everything to turn out fine.
