I never understood the joke about Crushed Velvet because in the movie National Velvet, the girl's name was Velvet and the horse's name was The Piebald or for short, The Pie. I guess they didn't do much research back then. Anyway, I loved Elizabeth Taylor. She was beautiful, feisty and completely fearless. RIP

@edwardjames50 You tell it like it is. If Liz Taylor was velvet, Joan is a used up ratty dish rag.

Rivers, for years, built her act around making Ms. Taylor the butt of her jokes. Rivers, bitter and ugly, obviously has some issues with her own face, so she lashed out at the most beautiful woman in the world. After 1,037 plastic surgeries, Rivers is still ugly. As far as the cracks about Taylor's husbands, at least that legend didn't have a husband who committed suicide over his wife's career failure. How can Joan, who married the ugly Edgar Rosenberg FOUR DAYS after she met him, throw stones?

Joan Rivers played a really ugly ET
Molly Shannon was better, I think.

@dinasztie I think you are confused. On "Saturday Night Live", Molly Shannon did Ann Miller. Is that the character you are thinking of? Or did Molly Shannon also do Elizabeth Taylor, and I missed it??? Thanks.
