Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko visited Rakhiv's "Hutsul Bryndza" festival on September 13, 2009. Upon arriving, he marched in a parade behind the Rakhiv Hutsul Orchestra. He then gave a speech in support of sheep herders and lauded Hutsuls (local mountain dwellers) for hanging onto their traditions.
Translation:
"Dear Hutsuls,
Don't ever be ashamed to be Hutsuls; always be proud.
Remember that you are special.
You are unique representatives of our nation.
And every time that you hear the word "Hutsul", you need to raise your head and outstretch your arms. You hold in your hands a unique spirit, unique culture, and unique traditions. "
