-
hey ericAnno go hang yer self you douche bag nolan ryans the man he practically invented and trade marked the fastball you re re
i bet lefty grove couldnt put hands on roblin ventura like nolan ryan did lol
-
Yeah, the steroids era. And Lefty Grove's era.
Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and Greg Maddux all pitched in a far more difficult era. They are far and away better than Ryan.
His ERA+ is 111, barely above average. As opposed to 154 (Pedro Martinez), 136 (Randy Johnson), 132 (Greg Maddux).
His 1.247 WHIP isn't anything great as opposed to 1.052 (Martinez), 1.171 (Johnson), and 1.143 (Maddux).
Roger Clemens and Bob Gibson were far more intimidating.
Has nothing to do with his teams.

Let's put it this way. If Ryan had pitched for Yanks, Bsox, Dodgers we wouldn't have this discussion. He played against these teams making him the enemy instead of the hero.
You have something against a 3.19 era and 1.247 whip? strikeouts at K/9 9.5? hits H/9 6.6? I really don't know what to say to you. He was the most intimidating pitcher ever.
baseball is not an easy sport no matter what era you play in. YHO he pitched in an easy era. lol. as apposed to what? steroid era. soft baseball era?
-
Why do I care about the Sox?
And yes, we would be having this discussion.
Check out Ryan's ERA+ and WHIP. Hell, look at his K/9, BB/9, or K/BB ratio. Ryan pitched in an easy pitching era in pitchers parks for most of his career (Anaheim Stadium, Astrodome, Shea).
Ryan's career ERA+ in nearly 5,400 innings is 111 (just 11 points above AVERAGE).
Please, tell me how I fail. Ryan wasn't that great, let alone the greatest. If you believe that he is, then you fail, not me.
-
you fail. if Ryan had played for Bosox this wouldn't even be a discussion.
-
How is he an idiot?
Lefty Grove was WORLDS better than Nolan Ryan. Try looking at something other than no-hitters and strikeouts.
-
Not even close.
First of all, we won't even discuss wins and losses because they are terrible stats. I will say this however, his teams were not nearly as bad as people make them out to be.
Try looking at his ERA+. When you look at Nolan's ERA compared to the era in which he played, he's not nearly as impressive as say, Greg Maddux or Pedro Martinez. Or Lefty Grove for that matter. Or Walter Johnson.
ERA+ takes into account ballpark and era. Nolan's is not impressive.
This is hardly worth responding to, but youre an idiot

everyone throwing out stats need to take into account Nolan's era every year is below 4 except for 2 years. His first and last. And he had 8 years below 3. He didn't get much run support. 324 wins might be 424. Imagine what we would be saying if he had just a little more run support. The greatest of all time.
