Congress Avenue bridge in downtown Austin is the spring and summer home to some 750,000 bats with up to 1.5 million bats at the peak of the bat-watching season. It's the largest urban bat colony in North America.

  • I so want to come see them.

  • incredible.

  • I love my hometown...

  • Hope this isn't a foretelling of doom for the 2011 Longhorn Football season...LOL

  • Looks cool, but WAY too damn many people. When there's a whole shit load of people, it just ruins any experience for me.

  • Read about this in What on Earth Evolved... Amazing!

  • it's actually the largest URBAN bat colony in the WORLD. largest colony in north america in general... super cool. nice video!

  • I watched the bat flight at Carlsbad one evening, it was amazing. According to the ranger, up to one million bats may rest in Carlsbad in the fall on their annual migration south. She also said that up to 20 million bats may rest under this bridge in Austin. Amazing. I would love to see this.

  • we were there on Sunday night and the bats did a no fly? wonder how often this happens?
