Wow this program was waaay ahead of its time. But the animation system of later versions made this even more kick ass!

Amazing. I've never seen the first version, but while lacking animation ability, it's still great.
Thanks for posting.

I use this program to make the backgrounds and I use Moviesetter to make the animations and to put it togeter. It's still great to use!

The thing I disliked about grafx2 is that it only works in 256 color mode. Good for creating illustrations, but not so good if you want to edit digital photos.

@lurkerrekrul or grafx2

If you want a Windows program that is very similar, do a search for Ultimate Paint. So far, it's the best Windows clone of DPaint that I've found.
Saint Paint is also pretty good, but some of its features are a little rough around the edges.

Maybe it was added in a later version, but I could swear I remember working on images larger than the screen and scrolling around them.

It seems odd these days, but Deluxe Paint never allowed you to create anything bugger than the screen size. I remember eagerly awaiting the PAL version so I didn't have that big gap at the bottom of my monitor.
Spoko :)
