This May 17, HMEA will host the 8th annual Independence 5k Walk/Run. This is a major event for us because it brings together the entire HMEA community people we serve, their family, the people who work for us, sponsors, donors, and friends all come together to support each other and in one afternoon make HMEA stronger for the rest of the year.
In addition to a mildly competitive 5K Road Race (on a USATF certified course), the day also features a flexible distance (up to 5K) fun walk. The event also features a kids' "Fun Run" for three separate age categories, refreshmetns, entertainment, prizes, raffles, and kids' activities.
To help raise funds for the 2,400 children and adults with disabilities supported by HMEA visit www.hmea.org/events.html to register for the race.
You can also go to www.firstgiving.com/hmea and set up your own personal fundraising page. If you can't be there, please spread the word to everyone you know and ask them to support the event by running, raising money, or spreading the word!
Every year the Independence 5K Walk/run is more popular and successful than the year before we have thousands of people who make the trek to Franklin, Ma. and we've learned that the people who join us aren't just coming for the events we produce, but because this event epitomizes who we are as an institution. It's the spirit of everyone pulling together, everyone doing what they can during one afternoon to further the mission of HMEA that gets thousands of people to give their time, money, and heart to us.
