The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, by brothers Ray and Dave Davies in 1964. Categorized in the United States as a British Invasion band, The Kinks are recognized as one of the most important and influential rock acts of the era.[1][2] Their music was influenced by a wide range of genres, including rhythm and blues, British music hall, folk, and country. Ray Davies (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Dave Davies (lead guitar, vocals) remained members throughout the group's 32-year run. Original members Pete Quaife (bass guitar, vocals) and Mick Avory (drums and percussion) were replaced by John Dalton in 1969 and Bob Henrit in 1984, respectively. Dalton was in turn replaced by Jim Rodford in 1978. Keyboardist Nicky Hopkins accompanied the band during studio sessions in the mid-1960s. Later, various keyboardists, including John Gosling and Ian Gibbons, were full-time members.

lyrics:
I remember
When you were down
And you needed a helping hand
I came to feed you
But now that I need you
You won't give me a second glance
Now I'm calling on citizens from all over the world
This is captain America calling
I bailed you out when you were down on your knees
So will you catch me now I'm falling
Help me now I'm calling you
Catch me now I'm falling
I'm in your hands, it's up to you
Catch me now, I'm falling
I remember
When you were down
You would always come running to me
I never denied you
And I would guide you through your difficulties
Now I'm calling on citizens from all over the world
This is captain America calling
I built you up when you were down on your knees
So will you catch me now I'm falling
Help me now I'm calling you
Catch me now I'm falling
I'm in your hands, it's up to you
Catch me now, I'm falling
When you were through, you would come to me
And I would always pull you around
Now it's your chance to do the same for me
And your secretary tells me sorry, but you've gone out of town.
This is captain America calling
This is captain America calling
Help me now I'm calling you
Catch me now I'm falling
I'm in your hands, it's up to you
Catch me now, I'm falling
I stood by you through all of your depressions
And I lifted you when you were down
Now it's your chance to do the same for me
I call you up, and your secretary tells me that you've gone out of town
This is captain America calling
This is captain America calling
Catch me now, I'm falling
I was the one that built you up
Through all your depressions and difficulties
I never thought that you would let me down
But the next time you're in trouble, baby
Do not come running to me
Now I'm calling all citizens from all over the world
This is captain America calling
I built you up when you were down on your knees
So will you catch me now I'm falling
Catch me now, I'm falling

  • @DCComicsLover This song was about late 70's recession and fall of countries to communists.

  • then some of musics greatest. Jim Morrisson, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin. You have to understand we lost almost 60,000 American service men in Vietnam. But we had the music =)

I lost a lot of my family in those years. but also had some of my best memories of them in those times.

  • Taking of the American hostages in Iran ( our embassy was attacked) like most british invasion bands, they had homes here. England was still our biggest ally. So I guess they felt a closeness for everything we were going through. We had the cold war with the Soviets, China, well China felt comfortable with Nixon, now he was gone. there just so much going on. Inflation was something we really never saw like this till after '71. We had lost our dear leaders not much earlier, then some of

  • I remember this time I was but a wee lad =) . It was a time of uncertainty it was the 70's You would have to understand what was going on. So much, Vietnam had the last troops pulled out in April of 75. 71 We got off the gold standard. I remember my grandfather telling me what a bad idea it was, and that they had talked about possibly going to silver instead. We had the oil crises, Nixon, had left office with a blemish on America. The revolution in Iran. trouble all over the globe.

  • Anyone know what political event this song is talking about? Or maybe I'm just looking to deep into this, I love this song :D
