1:52 these railway workers have a moment's respite as someone very important passes by: the line inspector, in all his glory...'too proud to acknowledge their salaams'.
By single click of the mouse, now-a-days i can book my travel ticket at my home in Indian Railways!! Also the comfort level of travel also improved way far! But i bet still the fare is so cheap and affordable!! I am wondering about this kind of transformation Indian Railways had gone through within this shorter span, fighting against all odds!!
For example the reserved passenger list was typed with the help of typewriter for all the coaces and also they had used extensively Telegraph to transmit the messages among stations!! Also it's amazing to see in those days "steam locomotives" were used extensively!! But things had changed quite vastly these days!!
By the way, I am an Indian!! This series was made before my birth (I born in 1981 and i believe this was made in 1980 by BBC). Its good to see the cities of olden days India and its railway system. I am wondering how far the railway system now got improved now at present!!
As a Permanent way inspector you got to have your eyes and attention on the track that is being inspected: you cant delay inspection to receprocate the wishes of the mazdoors: you have a line block and the traffic will be building up behind you. Thank God all that has changed now.
