Ivan Lins, a major Brazilian songwriter, is a master of harmony with heartfelt songs.
Many of his songs have been considered as Brazilian standards. He has become one of Brazil's most recorded composers whose albums are regularly nominated for both Grammy Awards and Latin Grammy Awards.
This song was once performed as a duet between Ivan Lins and Jane Monheit. Incidentally, Jane Monheit also performed in a separate stage in the same event.
This live version was performed at the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival on March 5, 2010. The annual festival has rapidly becoming the biggest jazz festival in the world today with 20 stages of concurrent performance. Ivan appeared in the first and second day of this year's venue. This recording is from his performance in the first day.
The quality of the video and audio is not to the highest standard as I took it with a point-and-shoot camera yet the show was a memorable one. Even when not at his best, Ivan Lins never fail to enthrall me. His evocative depth of emotion is exemplary.
Reflecting on the lyric of this song, one can just imagine for a while, strolling along the city of Rio de Jainero, along Jardim de Ala, Vidigal and Rocinho in a state of sorrow longing for a love past as the heart is made frozen by the cold, seemingly hollow surroundings.
The Indonesians that have visited our Bali island will be able to enliven Lins' description, just imagine yourself strolling sorrowfully along the beach of Kuta, down to Legian and then to Seminyak while experiencing the cold wind of lake Bratan in Bedugul at the same time.
I presented the portuguese lyric, accompanied with the indonesian language lyric. As much as possible I try to capture the original intent of the poetry only Lins could paint, and transfer the rich meaning to a language so foreign to the land of Brazil yet having the same developmental characteristics as a melting pot of different influences across the ages.
I hope you enjoy this presentation and be swept away by the poetic sadness of this song.
@curumina1 thank you for the kind comment!

I enjoy Ivan Lins music, too, and appreciate your description and that you provide the lyrics in two languages, this is excellent! Muito obrigado, 5*++/favorite! Curumina1
