IDOMENEO
Vedrommi intorno
L'ombra dolente,
Che notte, e giorno:
Sono innocente
M'accennerà.
Nel seri trafitto,
Nel corpo esangue
Il mio delitto,
Lo sparso sangue
M'additerà.
Qual spavento,
Qual dolore!
Di tormento
Questo core
Quante volte
Morirà!
IDAMANTE
Il padre adorato
Ritrovo, e lo perdo,
Mi fugge sdegnato
Fremendo d'orror.
Morire credei
Di gioia, e d'amore:
Or, barbari Dei!
M'uccide il doler.
IDOMENEO
I shall see about me
a lamenting shade
which night and day
will cry to me " I am innocent."
The blood spilt
from his pierced breast,
his pale corpse
will point out to me
my crime.
What horror,
what grief!
How many times
this heart
will die
of torment!
IDAMANTE
My beloved father
I find again, only to lose him.
He scorns and flies me,
trembling with horror.
I thought I would die
of joy and love,
but, cruel gods,
grief is killing me.

@MrHbc3 YES! I looked it up and the photo of the woman shown at the beginning of each segment IS a promotional photo of Veronica Gens. Pretty slick elias!! Actually I think this photo exists on a download by you of something by Gens. Throwing in a little puzzle for people, Eh?

Is it possible that the photograph of the pretty dark haired young woman that appears between each segment is ... is .. actually Veronica Gens?

Tenor-mezzo debate aside, I'm crazy about Breslik's singing and acting. And he's not hard on the eyes, either!

Its way better with a tenor... nothing worse then watching a girl walk in after they say Idamante killed the sea monster... thats really believable. Not to mention how many mezzo's have trouble with this tessitura.. its for a tenor, not mezzo. But.. that said.. the quartet does work better musically with the mezzo.. its a bit strange for the tenor.. but besides that.. its for sure a tenor role. Also more touching with the father/son connection. Just my opinion of course.

The role is better played by a man. It was originally meant for a man. Mozart himself sung the role.

almost...Breslik does indeed put up a good show but the musical coherence is somewhat lost with idamante sung an octave lower as a tenor instead of a mezzo.

Oh god I hate when they use a tenor for idamante!
