Wow you should lube those bearings. That thing screeches like a hippies harmonica. Are you generating power with it? How much? Doesn't the weather damage the fan motor?

completely lame video, especially the last half.

Hi there. Im starting my journey on making one of these conversions. Well done on a nice build. This looks like a good alternative for an Urban genie as i dont have the space for a traditional blades. Got some questions please. It has now anti-furl, how does it cope with that? Does this run quietly? Do you feel you'd get more power out traditional blades? Whats your meter readings please. Thanks

Great job, and creative at that,,,am thinking of building one of these as I love the concepts of capturing all that wind available in urban areas,,,I also like designs with what they call wind directors or accelerators,,,basically looks like wing design protruding from 3 or 4 points to speed up wind entering the turbine....Good luck and all the best

@fingerspies 2.8mph isn't that fast.
Is this connected to a generator or is it just free spinning?

@AlternativePowerMan free spin, the vid is to show how u can make a vant out of discarded items. but there is plenty of room for a generator under the tins...LATER FROM THE WEST COAST...

I built one of these and well it's shite... the wind has to be above 2.8mph to generate more than 3kw at 240volt although i have improved the design it no longer needs my cat to sit on top to stop it flying away and i don't have to wear ear defenders when the wind exceeds 4.2mph!! but the design is totally flawed as mine got stolen so it has no anti theft built in :(

sorry to hear about the theft

If you ever get real ambitious... you could try to make the top and bottom piece more like a reverse cone, so even more air gets directed into the blades to pick up more RPM.
Im building one of these myself from left over sheet metal and plywood.
