NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Hundreds gathered in Winchester to pay their respects to Lance Corporal Gregory Posey. The Marine was killed last week in Afghanistan.

Posey's body was flown into the Winchester Municipal Airport Thursday afternoon. The community said they saw this young Marine as family.

"It's hit the community very hard. This is the first fallen hero we've had, so bringing his body back and everything. We came out to support the family and it's been difficult," said resident Vicki Acklen.

Posey died last Thursday wounded during combat in Afghanistan. The 22-year-old's flag draped casket was flown into his hometown.

Hundreds came to pay respects to a young man they called a hero.

"It does affect everybody as a whole community and everything because most of us have lived here all of our lives, so it's like a family member to us," said resident Debra Hosier.

Those in the community remember Posey as a good person as well as a gifted athlete. He stared on the baseball team at Franklin County High School.

Residents said their thoughts turn to the family and they will do everything in their power to help them through this difficult time.

A memorial service for Posey will be held this weekend on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Winchester.

  • My heart goes out to the Posey family for the loss of their hero. I was one of the marines on the funeral detail (middle guy closest to camera). words cannot explain how it feels to lose a fellow brother of the marine corps. Semper Fi and god bless the Posey family

  • Thank you for posting this video. I wanted to be there, but could not get off work. My wife & kids stood along the route to salute this brave fallen hero. My prayers to the family. It's because of heros like Greg Posey that I can raise my family in the most wonderful country in the world. I thank ALL who serve, especially the ones who give the ultimate sacrifice. Thanks again for posting so people who couldn't be there can pay their respects. God Bless this family & God Bless America. SH
