I saw this experiment when it was on the nasa channel long ago. 1st there were two soft carpet like surfaces. The idea was they would thrust the cat towards the surface belly down so it may latch on.
The cat never really fully figured it out. It wanted to latch on to non flat surfaced objects like cables, beams and people.
2nd It's fun watching the learning process develop and the cats initial reaction was funny. The cat did develop a little and was uninjured during the process.
