Thomas A. Dorsey (Father of Gospel music) was a pianist for Ma Rainey and wrote songs like "Its Tight Like That". He turned to religion after death of his wife & child. He fused christian music with jazz & blues rhythms. The result was rollicking sound that many churches objected to. He & Sally Martin traveled around the country selling sheet music to more daring choirs & congregation. Best known songs are "Take My Hand Precious Lord", "Peace In The Valley", "Its a Highway to Heaven", many more.
