Ten years after the end of the civil war, democracy and development are still fragile in Sierra Leone.
Poverty is the heaviest heritage of civil war, is limiting political participation and the future of the post-war generation. Until now, the country is ranked on the last position in the UN-development index, on grade 179 of 179 countries worldwide. See a reportage from Freetown with an insight in one of the poorest town districts, Susan's Bay.

  • economic wealth isn't everything. there are plenty of other factors that play a role in how successful a people and their country is.

  • WAS NOT BURKINA FASO THE POOREST?

  • The poorest country in the world now is Haiti! No other country even comes close.

  • @Kra7as "I've been to Egypt and I was astonished by its beauty"

Visiting a hotel and beach for foreign tourists + few tourists attractions that are looked after with foreign money doesnt mean you got to know egypt.

Its a place of massive poverty , yet I do agree that northern africa is much "better off" than the "black" africa .

  • omg so poor!

  • pooor pooor pooor

  • Africa is a big continent where poor and relatively rich countries co-exist. Just like Asia, where rich countries like Japan, Iraq, Kuwait, UAE ( Dubai ) Qatar, China and Singapore co-exist with poor countries like Mongolia, Lebanon, Bhutan, Laos, Cambodia and Maldives.

My point is, don't buy the false misconception that Africa is poor. I'm not African but I've been to Egypt and I was astonished by its beauty.

  • yes u are right..very very pieceful now

  • my friend is from there
