For the benefit of doubt, please note that they could be referring to 民国 against the International calendar. I don't know, I could be wrong... there is a 11 years difference between the two..

yup singapore 1 dollar coin was introduced since 1989 not in 1997... and they withdraw 1 dollar note and replaced them with coins in the 1989 not in 1997.
