Description
Old fashioned large size Japanese folding fan (sensu). Oversize fans such as this are typically used in Japan as theatre props as well as by performers of the traditional dance called Nihon Buyo. This wonderful old performance fan is made of thin bamboo tines covered with hard Japanese paper. The fan is in fair condition though the paper is a bit frayed at the edges and creases with some wrinkles and wears a darkened patina of age. This fan is less than 40 years old and does not include a display stand.
Size:
Length when folded: 10.3 inches (26.5 centimeters)
Width across when open: 17.6 inches (45.0 centimeters)
Weight: 0.9 ounces (26 grams)
item code: R1S4-0006007

@31bleach31 I was just about to say that when I noticed your comment haha. Actually, there are also special sensu (せんす) that are made with metal and used for fighting. These are used in some traditional dances, but usually not. These metal ones are called tessen (てっせん).
