Radio Ethiopia from Addis Ababa on 9705 kHz received in Germany during a DXpedition to the fields on 10 January 2012 at 2001 UTC.

Receiver: Sony ICF-2001D with 30 meter longwire antenna

Distance: 5493 km

As you can see, the batteries of my torch light died during the video. ;-)

  • Nice clean signal you got out there, and with an ID as well. I should try to see how signals sounds on my PC speakers, as none of my radios could equal the sound of the Sony's big speaker.

  • @dxNovice Thanks! Yes, you ought to do so. The speaker of the Sony doesn't sound particularly well compared to radios of similar size such as the Roadstar TRA-2350P or the Grundig Satellit 500, but it sounds certainly better than any compact "paperback size" portable. The wide filter of the 2001D in combination with the SYNC detector makes listening to strong signals real fun.

  • Good signal ! The video of the jingle during the news or between programme is really helpful.

  • @pesnyaozemle Yes, this was probably the best signal I ever had from Ethiopia. That's why I hurried to take this video, and fortunately I got my camera started quickly enough to catch the ID at the beginning of the clip. Thanks for your comment!
