Music is big business, a global industry worth as much as forty billion dollars. Yet the market is dominated by major music groups, a few big name acts and a handful of festivals. There are exceptions, like the small city of Lucca in Northern Tuscany, which hosts an annual festival that has managed to attract serious stars for the last 11 years. But in the face of increasing competition from the musical heavyweights, do smaller festivals have a future?
