When the men's and women's fencing teams hosted the Southern Atlantic Conference Championships in February 2009, it was the first time a major intercollegiate fencing event had been held at the College. Thirteen teams from New York to Florida participated, including the College of William and Mary, which faced the Swarthmore men's foil team in the final gold medal-winning match.
That round featured the best of nine bouts between three fencers from each school. For Swarthmore, captain Fletcher Coleman '09, James Preimesberger '11, and Doug Woos '11 did the honors, with Doug winning the final bout, shown here (video by Eric Behrens '92). The day before, the women's team won all-around honors.
Gettysburg College is fencing here next weekend! I don't think it's going to be on the same competitive scale as this competition though. But there are still a lot of schools going to show up. From what I'm seeing here....I'm a little scared 0_0
