To be honest, I think this girl is just an overachiever to the extreme. I think there's a voice in her head telling her to be perfect at everything, and better than everyone. Before, she saw all the other kids eating "fun" food, and she felt she had to do better. Perhaps it gave her a sense of superiority. Now, in the treatment center, she again proves exemplary at the task at hand. I'm sure she goes to extremes with sports and school as well. It seems to me she just wants to be extraordinary.

maybe i'm wrong but this little girl just seems to be saying other peopls words...not really her own she doesn't seem to express herself very well regarding her illness, even for an 8 year old. It's like she's too intelligent to let them in on why she started.

I think this girl is too smart and mature for her own good. She is a very organized, very ritualized, very intelligent young woman who is probably sick of being treated like a child. Anorexia is a way for her to feel more grown up, which reflects in her behavior and the way she dresses. The tragic part is that she will get better is a structured environment where she is treated like an adult, but the moment she goes home she will regress. Her mom treating her like a child will make her sick.
