This is Todd Ukena. There are quite a few wrong notes as well as phrasing problems. You may not believe me but this has a snare drum accent pattern to relate to. When I am relealy getting nto this solo I start marking time. The second section asks for a a different sound. If you will angle your sticks and play on the tip of yarn mallet you will get a different sound ( a "hoom" is what I was looking for.) Get someone to play the accent rhythm pattern on a conga to get into the pattern.

oh thanks! yea im not much of a percussionist i just did the solo for fun. i play the trumpet

yea when i was in high school. i was a senior...i originally play the trumpet, i just did marimba for fun so i have no percussion experience
