This is a how-to for 1990's Arctic Cats on how to bypass the kill, TSS (Throttle safety switch) which go bad quite frequently and bypass the wiring harness and wire your key directly to the stator ground. I cover how to bypass a closed ignition loop system (up to 1997) and an open loop system (up to 2002 for sure). Watch, learn and ask questions. Even if your sled doesn't need this mod right now, it will in the future.

  • I only have two wires coming from throttle/kill switch side on my 91' Jag. I have tried to bypass those two wires by connecting the male and female ends directly but still no spark. Any other advice on how to troubleshoot no spark.

  • Have you measured your stator ohms yet? Have you tried the jumper wire yet? Have you viewed my electrical diagnosis video?

  • My son brought home a '93 Wildcat last week, then rebuilt the carbs, and fixed up a couple other things. When he was done the sled would start, but wouldn't rev. We went throught the carbs again, and it still would not rev. Idled fine but nothing more. We came in defeated and I sat down in front of the computer and found your video. I watched it and by the morning had convince myself that we had the same problem. I did what you said and he now has a great running sled. Thank you so much!

  • Cool. All you have to do is watch the few videos I put together and you'll know as much as me and I learned everything the hard way! Glad she's running like a top.

  • 1992 Prowler...No spark...When I push up the throttle lever..I got spark.. So I figured it was the TSS..Purchased a new switch replaced it...same thing. Almost like the throttle lever is not sitting in the right position. If I just push up slightly on the throttle lever. I have spark. What would cause that? Could it be I received a bad TSS.

  • Hard to say exactly what is causing it. I don't replace the TSS's, I just bypass them. I understand some people want the TSS and/or kill switch still hooked up but I just bypass all of them.

  • Run it until it dies and then pop the plugs out and check for spark. If you have bright blue spark, then it may be a carb or compression/internal engine issue. If you don't have bright blue spark, more thn likely it is a bad stator, trigger or trim the ends of your spark plug wires. Usually if a sled runs good "until it warms up" it is electrial which would probably mean 1 of the 3 things I mentioned above.

  • Great,,thanks that worked. another question for you, i have a 1995 jag 440 that runs great until its warmed up then it judt dies :( any quich way i can repair that. (plugs look great no flooding out or bad sounds when running) It has 85 to 90 psi in both sides. any help would make a 12 year old real happy! Thanks!

  • Thanks. I try to give general info and ideas so that even guys who own other models can have an idea if or how they could do the same thing. The #1 issue on these Cats are the TSS and the kill switch going bad on them.

  • I love it! This is the type of repairs I live by. No one else shows it as easy as you. Thanks
