I share my view of Christian fundamentalists and why their beliefs are dangerous to not only American society, but to the human mind.

While I hope for open discussion of my videos, I recommend not arguing with fundies for long periods of time. Poke a few holes in them and laugh it off.
Long debates are futile with them, and that is mostly because they are terrified of truly questioning their beliefs. Some will pretend that their beliefs are the result of rigorous examination and consideration of hard evidence and research.... and then "borrow" long refuted arguments from forums like this one: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/9/topics/33205?page=13.

It is fun, however, to count the logical fallacies you encounter when debating them. (check out http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies ). You'll hear them say stuff like "Prove X doesn't exist/ never happened. You can't! Nah nah nah nah nah. Therefore my belief is justified." (Insert "the tooth fairy" here. Suddenly, you can believe anything without reason). I love it because they don't realize that when they make a claim i.e. "The Bible is the inerrant word of God" or "Big Foot ate my dog" the burden of proof is on them. No one else has a reason to believe it unless they garnish evidence.

It is not the job of the skeptic to disprove your belief. It is your job to prove your claim. Otherwise, there would be no measure of truth.

Although disproving nutty ideas is easy to do with fundies. Disprove a worldwide flood? Easy. No fossil bunnies in the Cambrian.

Disprove that the Bible is inerrant? Bats aren't birds. Insects don't have four legs. Goliath wasn't ten feet tall, as it is anatomically impossible. Rabbits don't chew cud. Stars can't fall from heaven and be stomped out by humans. Exactly how can one misinterpret that?

Apologists get butterflies reading this, as they know their entire worldview depends on making laughable excuses for Biblical errors and contradictions, along with absurdities in their fundie view. They don't question their faith truly, as even to doubt is sinful. They are intellectually dishonest.
But its fun to watch them struggle with things.

  • Very good point - it's dangerous - loving your enemies and neighbours as yourself and turning away from evil and all lying - cheating - stealing - killing - coveting are very dangerous ideas indeed. Brilliant well thought out video.................

  • I can only hope I'm wrong about a violent revolution! An enlightenment of reason and peaceful protest is what may change things for the better for all of us, so much as I want to believe that -I hope it's not too late

  • Christianity has had a bad name for centuries, even when it was first founded! Just read 'the good book' from front to back and ask yourself how anyone can believe it or worse yet, follow the bible to the letter and not be an asshole! Fundamentalists are just what the name implies..people who follow the bible literally and proceed to force it on our society -It's time to say enough is enough

  • @Lennon4ever1 and don't forget Catholics, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhist, Taoists, Shintos, Confucianists, and Tolerant Protestants who can not stand the Fundie KJO Loonies like Jack Chick, James Dobson, Pat Robertson, and other assholes who give Christianty a bad name.

  • Fundamentalism puts together FUN and MENTAL into one word! There is something in that for all of us I think!

  • As divided and polarized as America is right now, I can foresee a violent revolution not unlike what happened in the Russian revolution or worse! It's that bad now in my opinion...I can only hope I'm wrong.

  • Fundamentalism is totally dangerous..AND well funded by right-wing large corporations that are conspiring to theocracize America into a fascist state! And yes, they are very willing to rise up with violence. There may also come a day when an alliance of serious atheists and liberals take up arms as well! I know it sounds extreme and ugly but this is what we face. I can say without hesitation, that I will NOT submit to theocratic rule!..will any of you??

  • @prewrathrapture333 not all christians believe that the rapture will happen.so what happens to them?they may be very nice good christians, but according to some rapture christians they will end up left behind.bb

  • wow, i mostly condsidered fundamnetalist annoying but never really dangerous. I am christian but not a fundamentalist.

  • Dude, I am glad you got out of that life! Welcome to the light of reason :)
