NOTE: This LP is part of the "DAT DER KIRBY" series, where we will establish a countdown of LPs that will lead to the awesomeness that is Kirby's Return to Dream Land. The reason behind this is to establish a wonderful connection between what that game offers to players and an audience familiar with the Kirby series and this is my attempt to do just that. Please follow me along these LPs to reach the cream of the crop.

Kirby's Dream Land 2 was developed by HAL Laboratories, Inc. and released on the Nintendo Game Boy.
Recording, gameplay and commentary done by me.

This is Kirby's second outing on the Game Boy and it is a fairly memorable game introducing a very new aspect: animal buddies for Kirby! Also, Kirby gets to use copy abilities for the first (and possibly last) time on the Nintendo Game Boy. The idea is that the Rainbow Islands that were once connected by a bridge have now been broken up by a new foe? Or could it possibly be King Dedede up to his old tricks again? With the help of Rick (the hamster who travels well on land), Coo (the owl that helps conquer the air), and Kine (the fish that swims excellently through the water), our hero Kirby will bring tranquility back to Dream Land and the planet Popstar once more.

The first level, Grass Land, is an easy start to this game and it will basically let a player get used to the controls. You will also meet Rick, the first of those three animal buddies. Rick is a great ally and very reliable in many aspects. He moves fast on land, can jump fairly well and offers a second lifebar to Kirby's own. The only flaws that Rick has is the fact that he can't fly and he's not good at swimming either. However, Rick will prove to be useful throughout your quest and the changes he gives to your copy abilities will help you retrieve things that you could not do by yourself. After breezing through the three stages of Grass Land, you meet Whispy Woods AGAIN. He is figuratively easy and dies just as quickly as he did in Kirby's Dream Land (Not Extra Mode) and Kirby's Adventure.

The second level is a step up in difficulty, but a fairly small one. You will get new enemies to deal with as well as new powers. You'll also meet Coo here and his flying abilities are unmatched. He makes aerial control even better than Kirby's and faster as well. Like Rick, copy abilities with Coo will change the way they are used and again, prove useful as you progress.

Enjoy the video!

also how did you add color to an emulator?

  • @zeoLightning Depends on the emulator, BGB usually presents the Gameboy games in colors that would be shown on the Super Game Boy or Game Boy Color.

  • ahh, kirby games, what is there not to love about them. (besides that one game xD)

Wow Waddler, your just destroying this game xD. Kirby games are definitely your type of game.

Can't wait to see more of this... "DAT DER Kirby" series XD

  • HmmMmmMmm...I sense rage and frustration in your future, WaddlerD...

Despite being tons of fun, Kirby games have progressively become more and more of a pain in the ass to 100%. Totally worth it on every one, but still...rage and frustration is in store for you, D...

  • For some weird reason those Rainbow Shards always reminded me of cigars a bit. I don't smoke, though. But yeah, nice video, Dawedee.

Too bad the Super Game Boy glitched up, but even after missing the real thing and the nice backdrop/border added by it on the SGB, we still can enjoy the game in widescreen format, filling out the entire screen.

  • Well, that's a problem almost all Gameboy games are suffering from.

The older the game and more played the worse the problem is.

My copy suffered that as well and I had to dispose of it.

    *sad*

  • I still haven't played this game. I really need to get on that~

  • Kirby's tale through Dream Land continues! ...right after these glitchy messages.

Powers are now a mainstay, plus buddies!

  • Nice. can't awit to see this game. Because i never played it.

  • Parasol w/ Coo deserves a 10 out of 5. It laughs at PROPELLER BOMBS!
