This piece of music is from Ludovico Einauid's I Giorni CD. The music is apparently inspired by an old song from Mali that tells the story of a hippopotamus who lived near the meeting point of two rivers, and everyone in a nearby village grew to love. One day the hippopotamus was shot by a hunter. From that day the song is sung as a lament to the death of a king or great person, or a regret for the loss of a loved one.
Einaudi's music is amazing. Check it out!

  • Hey PianoPod, my sister writes piano pieces and I really believe she can have a future in it. If I sent you one of her songs would you consider making one of your awesome videos with the pictures for it?

  • @izallskilfoo I would be delighted to do this. Has she got a YouTube channel?

  • Thank you for sharing the video with us. I enjoy listening to the melodic left hand part. Very beautiful and moving!

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • That's a good performance, very much in the Einaudi style. The sound comes over well (I note you have a Kawai, like me) - but on my equipment there was a bit of distortion at peaks, so you may need to move your microphone away. The camera angle will be popular with viewers wanting to learn the piece by watching.

  • Thanks for your kind words! Do you use an external microphone?

  • Dear P. I love this and the Beatles tune "In My Life"...Thank you for enriching my life with your videos and introducing me to Ludovico Einaudi's music...I have spent hours listening and trying to learn to be a better composer from his examples.

  • Woow...

    Thank you.

    *tears*

  • @izallskilfoo Unfortunately no, not yet anyway. I just wanted to see if you would actually do it before doing anything else. It's not a definate thing, but i'm really trying to get her do use her talent for other people's delight. I'll talk to her more about it and try to kick her into gear and i'll let you know in a personal message.

  • I actually would never listen to this kind of music 'cause I'm more the katy perry taylor swift type but my friend played that & I was so amazed by it that I just had to find it here on youtube & you did it AWESOME :DD
