  • @Zebonka I understand where you're coming from and I used to feel the same way, but after learning to accept the inevitable when it comes to an adaption of the Titanic.. you just learn to deal with it. I always notice historical inaccuracies in previous adaptions, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying what I'm watching. As a writer myself, I've learned to focus on the storyline first and the historical aspects second.

  • @Zebonka The 1958 film 'A Night To Remember' didn't need to use fictional characters to make the drama unfold - it already had the stories of the passengers to make the drama unfold and it's been classified as the most accurate Titanic adaption - despite there were a few historical errors - but that isn't the main focus - only the storyline is.

  • @Zebonka I've been researching the Titanic for 17 years, I wouldn't call myself an 'historian' like many of the wannabe amateurs out there, but I wouldn't criticize a film or mini-series if there are a few historical inaccuracies that I know of. I'd rather enjoy any adaption of the Titanic because I like to keep an open mind on how it's been portrayed. The 1953 film was just a fictional storyline based on a historical background and it's become a Titanic classic.

  • Oh look, I get that.

But it's like - you use drama to spice up boring events. There really wasn't anything boring about the Titanic; it really don't need spicing up!

Don't get me wrong, I'll watch anything Titanic once, but the trailer sure as hell is not doing it any favours. Some of it sounds downright silly.

  • @Zebonka What we must remember is that this a drama and not a documentary.

  • @Zebonka It will give a much more different perspective to the tragedy by focusing on the human drama of that night. Julian Fellowes has included a huge variety of passengers that have never been introduced before, including Dorothy Gibson, the silent film actress who starred in the first ever film about the Titanic.

  • @Zebonka It will feature 89 main characters and will tell a much wider story than James Cameron's film by featuring over a dozen multi-arc storylines for every part of the ship. It will have a few similarities to the 1958 film by interweaving the storylines from one to another and finally together. It will follow the same time-frame, but from different view points of the characters we're following.

  • @jPod07 thanks my points proven

  • Well maybe you have a point, it might not be so bad. Just as long as they don't include any of the hackneyed dialogue from this trailer.

I don't mind a good lark of a mini-series, but seriously - the stuff they're saying in this could literally be cribbed from any movie about any topic. I reckon the Titanic deserves a bit better, and it boggles my mind that in 50 years of filmmaking, the 1958 version is still the best. Is anyone even trying anymore??

  • @Zebonka Actually, this isn't a movie.. it's a mini-series. Why you're against this mini-series is a mystery to me.. it'll have no connection to James Cameron's storyline. If you're judging something when it hasn't been released.. it just makes you look more of a bonehead than you really are.
