"Bruce Wasserstein: Gouging Grandma", follows Robin Berson, the daughter of an Atria resident, and Dino Vallenes, a maintenance worker at an Atria facility, as they travel to Bermuda to speak out at Lazard's annual shareholder meeting.

Lazard paid Bruce Wasserstein $41 million for 2007 and, on the same day, gave him a new five-year deal worth about another $100 million. Average pay for Atria workers is $8-$10 an hour, and workers report that the costs of company-offered healthcare puts it well beyond their reach. At the same time, elderly residents and workers have cited wide-ranging concerns, such as poor patient care, poverty wages for employees and skyrocketing rent increases, at Atria facilities. In response to complaints from residents, legislators in CA and NY have called on Atria to stop gouging residents and respect its employees.

  • I work for atria and this is propaganda for the union-

  • Keep drinking the Kool Aid.

  • He ran (he died) a company that is an advisory firm. They don't lend, they don't take over. They advise/consult so take your populist anger over to Goldman Sachs. Where would people be without unions? Employed.

  • Why do you want to blame unions when people like Wasserstein run companies that have put profits before people since time began. Where would working people be without unions policing the workplace? Unions still have a pace in this world and Wasserstein is proof of that.

  • Video starts out about care for the elderly and morphs into a pro union video. Nice. First, the guy who says he's making $12/hour and only $20k per year. 8 hour days, and 5 day weeks ($500/week) that would mean he's working 40 weeks. Doesn't add. Second and more importantly, the woman who's worried about her mother. Move her. Don't disguise a pro union video in the guise of a video worried about care. Unions have blown every industry they've been in (airlines, autos, steel, education...).

  • hmm, great info about a rampant problem in this country. Greed will be the end of us all.

The text scroll in the middle is too fast. You should not appear to skim over the facts. Overall, a subject that needs greater attention.

  • when it comes to our peoples healthcare we should their health first then business second. they got lives.

  • sadly thats what america has come to pouting the good will to others with cold hard cash.....

  • In god's name YOU'RE one of Them!
