Yep! Nuka Cola bottlecaps are the currency in Fallout 2 and 3. I suppose cuz they're pretty available??? Weird, I know...

Nuka cola bottlecaps aren't the currency in fallout 2. The bottlecaps were used because they were available, and no more could be produced, thus creating a sort of balance. But in FO2 they started using good ol' american dollars.
Maybe the NCR got themselves a money-printing press or something? Oh well...
But yes, bottlecaps are the currency, and I'm kinda happy to hear it: I liked that concept in the original Fallout.
