Anthony takes a few minutes to explain our testing process at the Langley Full-Scale Tunnel. Thanks to the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Old Dominion University for providing us with this opportunity.

  • Man! This place is awesome!!!

  • Nice video guys.

There a book called "Build your own gas turbine" by kurt shreckling (sp) in which he details the whole process for a model sized turbine, and then shows himself building it. The shaft speed is around 100krpm. The compressor is wood wrapped with carbon fibre thread around it's circumference. Works well enough to shoot model planes around at a few hundred mph.

  • It looks like a great scene for Duke Nukem where he sends one of the badies right into the blades.

  • If 80 mph takes 4000 hp from each fan, not turbine, 40 will take 500 hp. 1/2 speed = 1/4 wind resistance (1000 hp) and double the time to do it in = 500 hp each.

  • thats my school ODU!!!

  • wow i thought that it was a little model car until the pan around. that place is huge!

  • sure enough, that's what two 4000hp electric motors sound like when they start moving from a stop. they're kinda old, too.

so sad that NASA/USAF decided to close it :(

  • what was that hum that sounded like it was winding down on start up

  • I sure hope they don't ever tear that down
