[first lines]
Narrator: Many years ago, before there were any automobiles and before we had electricity or even gas lighting and when people used horses if they wanted to go for a ride and oil lamps and candles if they needed a light, there lived in a small country town, yes, a butcher, a baker and a candlestick maker.

Narrator: And so it was, many years ago, that the candlemaker's son learned the meaning of Christmas just as we must learn it today.

This short is by Halas & Batchelor whom also produced/directed "Animal Farm" (1954) and the "Captain Sternn" segment in "Heavy Metal" (1981).

  • I'm curious .. . what's that movie with some old guy fighting Demons/Trolls/whatever they were and he had to get the toys he made but were later stolen and yet to get them to give to all the people down the town below?

What movie was that? Also apparently a tree nature king person wants to make him immortal also.

  • @shamii1 ...uhmm... what?

  • For anyone interested, I have determined that the theme song from this cartoon is the piece "In Dulci Jubilo", a really beautiful song of which a great version was done by Mike Oldfield. Check it out.

  • @treetoptop I know MIke Oldfield from The Exorcist ... that;s quite a stretch!

  • ...Why is the boy feeding the mouse candle-wax? that can't be healthy for him.

  • That was really wonderful. The cartoon looks like it has been restored.

  • @AlbinoTanuki Candles were most likely made from beeswax which would be somewhat edible to mice. Besides, mice eat anything. lol

  • Amazing! Please visit my channel as well.

  • In those days candles were made from beef tallow, not wax. It was perfectly OK to feed it to the little mouse.

  • @shamii1 The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. It's a Rankin-Bass special.

  • @jackie7610 the information is noted in the text under the video. Enjoy!
