Thank you for putting up this video. Joely Richardson does a lovely portrayal of the Duchess. I really enjoyed it. I kind of dread Madonna's version of the Windsors that wil probably be out soon.

Joely Richardson is perfect as Mrs. Simpson!

@TokyoSpike Yes but it seems this doesn't rely on Wallis' word at all, just Diana's, as Diana knew the Queen Mother herself and could have reached this conclusion without Wallis telling her anything. Seems Diana alleges the Queen Mother was in love with Edward VIII but he had no interest in her, before Wallis came along, so Diana could have known that. And then when the Queen Mum despised Wallis, reached that conclusion. And Di knew Queen Mum when she was popular not estranged, still speculation

@trixwiz7 I've heard about that letter, too, but as far as I know, Diana Mosley only became close to the Duchess of Windsor after the war, when they were both living in France. I can't really accept her or the Duchess as a reliable witnesses in the case, since both had been shunned by mainstream British society and probably bore some pretty strong grudges...

@TokyoSpike On the surface, that would seem to be so. However a) many corners of the Court disliked Wallis (unfairly so, but she was a b*tch nonetheless) and b) in a letter from Diana Mosley (ne Mitford) to her sister, Diana suggests that the Queen Mother disliked Wallis because she, herself, was originally in love with Prince Edward and she was jealous of Wallis.
Nothing more than an idea expressed in a letter, but one never knows...

@trinapinks i agree they were niave. you must remember at the time many british people thought hitler was doing a wonderful job. he dragged his country from the jaws of disaster. clearly none of his admirers had read his sordid book mein kamf(s). see the documentary hitler's favourite royal to find a windsor working for hitler at a very high level. then check out prince philip's sisters, both married nazis. highlighting edward's nazi sympathies hid the many other skeletons in the cupboards.

@johneunson there is video of them visiting Germany and shaking Hitler's hand there is no dipute about that whether you like those two are not I does not change that fact that they visited and politely shook the hand of the man responsible for the suffering of so many, and seemed to be having a jolly good time while they did it.
-
@trinapinks like i say, you have swallowed the buck. house version of history.

@johneunson what lies, she was a cheating whore and he was an idiot who said the wrong things and was a constant source of embrassment, people don't like them because they were Nazi loving traitors. I am sorry but it is not a lie that they visited Germany and shook the hand of Hitler that makes them evil in my book.
6:10 I sincerely doubt the Queen Mum was this big of a b*tch. She disliked Wallis mainly because the abdication forced her husband Bertie into being king, a job he did not want and that certainly hastened his death.

I like Wallis and Edward. I think she gets a bad wrap as does he. I do think a person should do their duty but Edward was never meant to be a king and his brother was far better at it despite his difficulties. I think the entire story shows what is wrong with having a class system based on where how and to whom you were born.
