I have dermatillomania and trichotillomania. Sometimes it's best to talk about this stuff to an unknown audience.

Update (June 2009): I finally worked up the courage to start attending therapy for my disorder about a year ago. In addition, I'm taking sertraline (Zoloft) to ease my social anxiety (not covered in this video) and to dull my intrusive thoughts (covered in a different video). I'm still experiencing symptoms, including trich and dermatillomania, but I'm working on getting better and that's a good enough start for me.

Thanks so much to everyone who's shared their own stories in the comment section, and everyone who's left encouragement. It means more to me than you'll ever know. And to those of you who haven't sought help yet for OCD - if you can, get help now. There's no substitute for it, and there's no good reason why you should have to fight it on your own.

If you're unable to get help because of a lack of health insurance (been there, believe me), I highly recommend Dr. Jeffrey M. Schwartz's book Brain Lock. There's a lot of insight to be found in there - a lot of ideas and coping mechanisms that I know I'd have never thought of on my own. It's available in paperback and runs for something like twelve bucks. If you can't get professional help but are committed to improving your symptoms, it's the best tool out there.

Thanks again everyone, and keep the faith. :)

  • @jonasbrothers772 Don't worry. You can actually cure OCD by yourself. Why don't you visit my channel? Thanks

  • Thanks for sharing! I am now 30, and have had raw and sore fingers for about 20 years (maybe more?). I tend to fold my hands in public so that they cannot be seen, but until today I had never thought of this as a disorder. It is both sad and comforting to see how many people "suffer" with this. As a woman I wish just once that I could have beautiful hands.

  • ....but I advise you to believe that God does not want this for us, be good, follow Him, you have to believe more in your inner self than in your own fear, you are very sweeet, and there are many people suffering from this that will beat this demon.

  • Hey, I ve been dealing with obssesive thoughts ( not compulsive) that tormented me like helll for 8 years. I've been suffering because of that veeeeeery much, no one can imagine..and I can't even imagine that someone could suffer more. My point is, that I found some hormonal imbalances in my body that could have triggered this stuff, and I am doing acupuncture, which has really helped me and I really believe it is going to set me free. I've been in placed with my mind that you can't even imagin

  • @TheBubbles6212 Maybe you could call an OCD hotline? I don't know I'm 12 (going on 13) and I'm too scared to tell people I have. But definitely tell someone. Maybe a friend.

  • @afraidofpop

I don't think you're weird, it's in fact you're more normal than me, as far as I can tell. God Bless

  • @BlackOpVidsForYou

Look, maybe YOU think life is just playing black ops, but many people (like myself) have problems, and we are trying to solve them. So if you are just going to tell us we are freaks, we're not gonna listen.
