  • @Moionfire It's distrubing because the U.S. has fewer correspondents permanently stationed in foreign capitals than any other major Western nation.

  • I had to log in @ 5:56 to make a comment. Street riots/violence incidents are not just 'theatrical'. They are dramatic, yes, but the Seattle WTO riots of '99 were an example of peaceful protesting that was escalated into violence by police. In the meantime, the inside activities of WTO unobserved by the media. The 2000 WTO meeting was held in Dubai, where a group of 3 people or more is considered a 'mob'. I'm not an anarchist, but I do support getting some kind of message through to the WTO.

  • Citizen Journalism.

    Don't watch the mainstream media.

Get your information from alternative sources.

    Ask questions and demand answers.

    Peace

  • Could argue the reason we're all so busy feeding our kids is because salaries have been frozen for 2 decades. Effective journalism would shine light on the existence of and causes of this inequality.

  • As if the citizen has any power.

The more power that is given you the more that will be asked of you.

    OR

The greater the power the greater the responsibility.

Many people are uneducated, apathetic, and helpless. They are more focused on feeding their kids than the effects that conglomerates have on our society.

He has very valid points. Just because he thinks foreign newspapers are better doesn't mean that everything else he said is not valid!

  • I agree. I found it a little disturbing that he said the Guardian, Le monde, are good examples of journalism. Just because something is foreign(and left wing) doesn't mean it isn't biased.

  • Great video, my only critique is that the presenters localize all of the prescribed ills to the United States and hold up a free press as our only saviour. I feel like both of those ideas are knee-jerk and short-sighted. Even in countries with vast government regulations on corporate activity and press corps that fear no retribution both corruption and bias exist. My thoughts are that the ultimate power lies in the hands of the consumer, the voter and the citizen.

  • love the MEF. Thanks for posting.
